Riding on a SUP Foil is all the rage these days and so many paddlers are getting in on the action! From novice to pros and seasoned veterans just to name a few. Have you ever thought about trying it?

What’s holding you back? Is it lack of time? Or lack of money? What if there was a way to try it without breaking the bank. Consider turning one of your old SUP boards into a foil.

Here’s how you can easily do it yourself!

Picking Your Board

If you have a short SUP board, approximately about 8’6” that should work just fine. It’s recommended that you use a short board that you are still able to stand on it.

Using a Tuttle Box

A tuttle box is a unique fin box that is used primarily for windsurfing or kitesurfing but can be used for a foil board. It can be installed in your board and allows you to attach the foil to your SUP board. Although, you can probably install the Tuttle Box yourself, it may be a good idea to take it to a professional as it can be a little tricking when it comes to glassing.

You also want to make sure that the bolts that came with the foil are long enough to reach the Tuttle Box. If it’s not, a trip to the hardware store may be in order!

Replace the Traction Pad

If you’re installing a Tuttle Box, you may need to remove part of your pad if you use one. You can cover it up with a new traction pad or install a stomp pad on there so you can feel where your foot will be placed as you’re riding your SUP board.

Now You Can Ride the Waves!

Just a few steps that you need to do to transform your old SUP board into a Foil Board. There’s a couple of things that you need to have done professionally but otherwise it’s a do-it-yourself!
